I attended Pratt Institute as a recipient of the “Raw Talent Scholarship.” After graduating, I was recruited by Ralph Lauren to illustrate Ralph Lauren’s fashion concepts in photo realistic color pencil drawings. When I left Ralph Lauren at the age of 25, I was as the youngest director in company history. 

After Ralph Lauren, I started a brand identity and package design company. I led a team that designed brand identities, packaging, and print communications for companies that include; Estée Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Fendi, Liz Claiborne, Coach, Cosmair, Revlon, Perry Ellis, Clarins, and Stuart Weitzman. My work took me all over the world. I’ve created brand identities and package design for companies and sports teams in South Korea, Australia, Monaco, Switzerland, China and Canada. I also designed athlete brand identities for Tiger Woods and former heavyweight champions Evander Holyfield and Jon Ruiz. 

In 2004 I relocated to San Francisco to become the creative director for a major online travel website. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the city. When I’m not working as a professional creative, I can be found working in my San Francisco Mission district art studio or in various city parks drawing pen and ink illustrations. 

As a fine artist, I am multi-disciplined and enjoy working in a variety of mediums. I tend to be representational in my work but can move from photo-realism to abstract comfortably. I enjoy creating pieces that use bold strong colors combined with high-detail. I like unusual subject matters and enjoy combining unlikely elements into my pieces. For instance, combining my pen and ink illustrations with antique maps. My fashion background continues to be a theme in my work, inspiring me to explore functional and wearable art, as well as illustrations to adorn and enhance walls. 

I work as a full-time artist and live both in San Francisco, California, and in Melbourne, Australia. My artwork has been offered by Cain Schulte Contemporary Art in Union Square, San Francisco, by Reaves Gallery in Chelsea, New York, and by Art Equity, in Sydney, Australia, and by Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio.

My paintings explore the contemporary self and its evolving sense of identity. I investigate the influences of pop-culture, marketing, and news media on social and individual motivation and behavior, and I question the plausibility of the authentic individual. Each painting is the result of a labor intensive process comprised of scavenging and collecting newspapers and media materials to use as collage backgrounds that form suggestive narratives for the over-laying figurative images I paint on top. Once the collage is created, the drawing and painting begins, and finally the piece is sealed in a thick coating of epoxy resin. In early 2011, my series "Upload," based on Great Britain's Machin Head stamp, was exhibited at the Melbourne Affordable Art Fair and enjoyed a sold-out show. My latest series, "Comic Relief," is a small series inspired by the TinTin comic and addresses a society's inclination to ignore the underlying social psychological patterns and behavior that threaten to destroy it.

Most exciting at the moment for me is my current series called the "Rx" series.  I have been working twoard this solo show for the past two years.  The 20 paintings that comprise this series will open November 21, 2014 at the Kenneth Paul Lesko Gallery.

I am currently working on a two new series of paintings the first  endangered species of California and the second fantastic space aliens.  I am interested in texture and variety and contrast of ark through the use of many materiasl including gouache, screen printing, resin, spray paint, and pencil. 

Ali grew up in Ithaca and Brooklyn, NY and moved to San Francisco in 1995. She holds an MFA in Printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis, and a BFA in Painting from Cornell University. She works in printmaking, painting, and mixed. Recent exhibits include “Four Artists” at Ligne Roset, “The Day of the Dead” at the Legion of Honor, “The Eye of the Storm” at Markham Vineyards, and “Chicano Visions” at the De Young Museum. She has held artist residencies at the de Young Art Center in San Francisco and the Lower East Side Printshop in New York. Ali has taught at Drew high school since 1996. She has taught in a wide range of institutions including community centers, at risk youth summer programs, and special events and workshops at the de Young Museum and SFMOMA. She will be the artist in residence at the De Young Museum August 2010. There are several new bodies of work including small 8" x 8" encaustic wood panels inspired from dreams and childhood memories. The smaller pieces created this year reference Stonehenge and seasons. My favorite quality of encaustic is the transparency and layering that creates a sequenced narrative, a feeling of memory, and nostalgia. The beauty of this media is its unique translucency, spontaneity, and combination of printmaking, painting, and drawing techniques. Monprints are created by painting a plate with ink. A moist piece of paper is placed on top of the plate and rolled through an etching press which transfers the ink from the plate to the paper. Each color is a separate pass through the press. The characteristic of monoprinting is that no two prints are alike; although images can be similar, editioning is not possible. Also known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques, monoprints and monotypes are essentially printed paintings. The appeal of the monotype lies in the unique translucency that creates a quality of light very different from a painting on paper or a print, and the beauty of this media is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing mediums.

I am an American artist, living in San Francisco, California. I am originally from the East coast where I received my classical education in Sculpture from the Art Students League of N.Y.C., N.Y., on the Merit scholarship and my Bachelors Degree in Graphic Arts and Education from Bennington College in Vermont in 1991. I teach clay modeling, protraiture and the figure to adults and children in public and private schools and in my studio.
Commissions I have done include lifesize bronze animals, animal stone carvings and portraits . I paint landscapes on location. Everything I paint has ancient mythic symbols that are revealed in optical illusions in my brushstrokes. My skill in my craft is important to me. I am greatly inspired by nature and by the great masters of the past and old American folk art. I try to bring out the architypes from the ancients in my portraits and create some kind of a pun.

"Zamarrón is a graphic artist whose work has been presented in different media: web, television, video, print, as well as art galleries. He has exhibited his work both in Spain, the United States and Northern Europe. He was invited to participate in the annual contest at the prestigious “New Langton Arts” gallery in 1995, after he had just arrived to San Francisco. His early work had been featured in several individual and collective shows at Facultad de Bellas Artes of Madrid (Painting and Audiovisual Media), where he graduated in 1994. He has worked with Madrid’s Galería Gaudí on shows for international festivals. He was invited by the Spanish Consulate of San Francisco to represent Spain with his paintings at the emblematic Palace of Fine Arts. He participated in a collective exhibit at the prestigious 111 Minna Gallery. His last big (sold out) show was at Fort Mason Center, for Open Studios in 2010.

Currently, he alternates his work as an art educator at Holy Name of Jesus school with his professional activity as a portrait artist, while trying to do “new things” in
all that relates to the development of his body of work. Day by day, he continues with his studies in art, he is getting his MA, Masters of Art Education at Academy of Art University. He has also studied multimedia and art in California, at the universities of San Francisco State and Berkeley, respectively."

My work arises from the desire to capture emotion and expression: their mystery and power have always intrigued and fascinated me. In both my figurative and non-figurative work, I aim to retain the emotional rather than the physical, to evoke the spiritual rather than the temporal; and to search for the common sensitivity between my work and the viewer. I use opaque and transparent acrylics, oil pastels, varnishes and washes in super-imposed layers, arranging them according to their affinities and resistances, letting the colors speak.
