It's all about color. Well, maybe also gesture. And, the relations between the two. But not a lot more. (Isn't that enough?)

I'm fascinated by the constant flow of facts and other information pouring into our minds; especially the information our conscious mind deems important. Unconsciously, it's always our emotions that end up guiding us, making decisions, and ultimately changing us. This is what I explore in my art.

Painting is an adrenaline rush similar to skiing down mountains, kayaking rivers, and surfing oceans. Kayaking off a waterfall or putting a brush to canvas creates butterflies of excitement. Each painting captures a moment in the outdoors, never to be repeated, but always exhilarating and dynamic.
All of my canvases are hand stretched and every painting uses the highest quality pigments, hand mixed to last for centuries. Applying bold marks of color expressively and with confidence, the paint moves while allowing each layer to reveal the painting's history. The layers of paint are aggressive yet sensitive the same way a river is intensely powerful or deeply serene. The art is forged from memories of how incredibly fun life is!

Most of my sculptures spring from a reverence for the natural world. The tree icons honor nature and encourage reflection. Other sculptures explore points of contact where humans appropriate ever more of nature into our service.
Welded steel is my favorite medium - through manipulation, the molten metal flows like lava and reveals its organic character. Sometimes I cast concrete in combination with the steel. Both of these materials possess a physical duality: they may appear quite rigid or very fluid, depending on how they are manipulated.

My work is about exploring the beauty of pattern and repetition to create one-of-a-kind, unique and abstract works on paper. I often think of my compositions as printed textiles.
My graphic design training and background directly informs my prints; with a strong use of geometric form, color palettes, tonal contrast and modern compositional elements. Having lived in Japan, I have been influenced and inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of balanced compositions, and the contemplative qualities that can be found in the harmonious rhythms of pattern. The collecting of textiles from my world travels has also been hugely inspirational.
I place a strong emphasis on experimenting with process, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible with different printmaking mediums. I experiment with new mark-making techniques; discovering ways of making impressions with unexpected materials, and ways of transferring, layering, and removing imagery.
