Miranda Caroligne represents the work of Miranda C. Burns. While Miranda’s talents range from performance art to philosophy, and installation art to authorship, her primary focus is the creation of wearable art from salvaged textiles. She was raised in the nature of woodlands and oceans, nestled among a pile of scrap fabric with a needle in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other. Formally trained and licensed as a Physical Therapist (MSPT), Miranda has her own unique way of tailoring garments to enhance body form and mechanics. Miranda’s creations are based on much more than aesthetics. Her work is infused with concepts of individual self-expression, DIY practices, realistic body image, diminishing waste, supporting local economies and sustainable living. This ethos is masterfully woven together to recall the forms of yesteryear and the function of today with an otherworldly edge -- a heartfelt core philosophy she calls “neoarchaic.”
Miranda’s designs have been available to the public since August 2001, and are proudly adorned by performers and fascinating individuals for their playfully dramatic qualities. Her fashion performances and stunning one-of-a-kind creations have established her as a bright star in San Francisco's constellation of provocative artist-designers. She gives a fun peek inside this world in her book, “Reconstructing Clothing for Dummies." After 5 years of running her namesake boutique in the Mission, and just over 3 years behind the Haight Street cooperative, Trunk; Miranda has relocated to the artist live-work community, Developing Environments. It is here that she is able to refocus her energies towards her private commission clientele, expand her designs into a growing number of new cities and let her busy hands explore a variety of new media.

Designer Colleen Mauer's creative venture began on a cluttered desk in her Hayes Valley apartment in San Francisco nearly 6 years ago. Little did she know, her passion for design and jewelry making would someday lead to a full-time career. Colleen moved to California in 2001 with high aspirations of finding a distinguished design job. After graduating with honors from Virginia Tech with a BS in Industrial Design, it seemed like a very feasible goal. Colleen worked at a small furniture design company in Oakland before deciding that spending her days in someone else's studio was not what she had in mind. Just two years later, Colleen Mauer Designs was born. First, though, Colleen lived her dream of traveling the globe and spent extensive time in Asia. With those experiences still vivid in her mind, Colleen has been even more inspired to take her designs to the next level. Jewelry has become a part of her daily routine; it serves as her source of constant inspiration. She designs using texture, color, sounds and tones as her tools for transforming a simple section of material into a unique piece of jewelry. Colleen's designs celebrate simple geometries to create a line of jewelry that can compliment any look...from casual and everyday to chic and classic. Colleen's studio is nestled in Secession Art and Design of Bernal Heights where you can experience the production process from start to finish. She will gladly work with you on a special order for a wedding party or an important event, or she will craft an everyday piece that transcends the routine. Your options for materials, styles and textures are virtually boundless. And if you find something you are attracted to, Colleen will gladly tweak the design to suit your needs. Just email her at [email protected] or call 415.637.7762 with any orders or questions, or to join the Colleen Mauer Designs mailing list.

I attended Pratt Institute as a recipient of the “Raw Talent Scholarship.” After graduating, I was recruited by Ralph Lauren to illustrate Ralph Lauren’s fashion concepts in photo realistic color pencil drawings. When I left Ralph Lauren at the age of 25, I was as the youngest director in company history.
After Ralph Lauren, I started a brand identity and package design company. I led a team that designed brand identities, packaging, and print communications for companies that include; Estée Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Fendi, Liz Claiborne, Coach, Cosmair, Revlon, Perry Ellis, Clarins, and Stuart Weitzman. My work took me all over the world. I’ve created brand identities and package design for companies and sports teams in South Korea, Australia, Monaco, Switzerland, China and Canada. I also designed athlete brand identities for Tiger Woods and former heavyweight champions Evander Holyfield and Jon Ruiz.
In 2004 I relocated to San Francisco to become the creative director for a major online travel website. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the city. When I’m not working as a professional creative, I can be found working in my San Francisco Mission district art studio or in various city parks drawing pen and ink illustrations.
As a fine artist, I am multi-disciplined and enjoy working in a variety of mediums. I tend to be representational in my work but can move from photo-realism to abstract comfortably. I enjoy creating pieces that use bold strong colors combined with high-detail. I like unusual subject matters and enjoy combining unlikely elements into my pieces. For instance, combining my pen and ink illustrations with antique maps. My fashion background continues to be a theme in my work, inspiring me to explore functional and wearable art, as well as illustrations to adorn and enhance walls.
