My intention as an artist is to provoke an essential exchange between the art and the viewer. I create work that stimulates an emotional response using color and movement.
When I view a painting or any other type of art, I look to be changed by it. I want a new perspective, an alteration or a sign that something is happening here.
Much of my work starts in abstraction, but often a portrait emerges. I love it when this happens. I don’t know who they are, but the arrival triggers something elemental. A longing from a lost connection or a remembrance of something or someone I once found beautiful.
Often, when I look back on a finished piece, I’m startled by what it says or how it elicits such a visceral response. I also love that the work can have a profound effect on someone else in an entirely unrelated way.
I believe my best work has a sound or movement to it that communicates to the core of the viewer.
