Person or object, my work has always had a singular focus. I'm drawn to objects that surround me and chairs in particular fascinate me because they are both form and function. I seldom combine objects to create composition, instead I allow the large flat areas of color to create positive and negative shapes that both define and counterpoint the subject. The tension between these complimentary shapes and colors, along with the strong black line, are what gives the work its kinetic energy. The deliberate abstraction of the subject in turn contrasts with the naked simplicity of the bare wood, giving the work a simultaneous manipulated and organic quality.
