Images of people and their surroundings suggest narratives. These images may suggest stories wrought with nostalgia and personal tale or they maybe a snapshot within the mundane rhythms of everyday life. All these images leave questions. Are there conclusions to be drawn? Is there a story? Are these images but lost fragments of repeating patterns, situations, experiences and cultural themes that are revisited and continue to be replayed with a revolving cast of characters that share a cultural milieu?
I paint images of people and landscapes. I am interested in how the photo preserves the illusion of reality while at the same time abstracts and flattens the space and figures. Painting continues that transformation.
