Artist Statement

My main works are conceptual interactive events that are a blend of performance and installation art. Each piece is built around a central theme and involves a variety of mediums which collectively form a single art piece, a genre I refer to as 'aggregate art'. The events leading up to the exhibition are important, the exhibition is short-lived, and the location where I hold the event is deliberately selected to fit within my project. Each work is carefully documented and preserved on its own website which serves as the final state.

My debut aggregate art project 16 occurred in November 2006 at a rented-out apartment/gallery space and was a collaboration with fellow artist Betty Blake. My sophomore project Justification For Grooming was held on June 29, 2007 in a hair salon and transformed the space into a temple for beauty worship. The third aggregate art piece The Sentient Painting was held for 2 days, July12-14 2008 at the Live Worms Gallery and explored the concept of using other artists as painting mediums. My fourth and most recent aggregate art installation The Usa Family Estate occurred on March 7, 2009 and was a life-sized diorama of America's economic crisis, with a storyline told through the belongings of a fictitious family.

For open studios I will be showing a film and displaying objects from the aggregate art works. Works for sale will include paintings, collage, and mixed media that I work on in between each aggregate art project, all of which are loose meditations on the event that had just occurred.
