Artist Statement
My work is meant to stir the intellect and yet be meditative. With my current work, I am exploring the effects of transformation on forms and objects. This study has evolved from my observations about people. Many things happen to us in the course of time that dramatically change who we are and yet to the casual observer, we appear the same. I have translated this curious observation into the study of the evolution of forms and objects. The resultant pieces are organic or biological in essence.
I work with repetition of form, how change in size, shape or color influence an object. My latest works are large-scale installations using the forms I have experimented with in my smaller work. Some artworks are ceramic paintings, ceramic forms attached to wood panels. Others are ceramic forms installed directly on the wall.
My work is hand built, primarily using low fire clay and glazes. Form and color are important elements in my work. The seductive qualities of the ceramic medium of color and surface are used to attract the attention of the viewers so that they will spend time looking at the work, embarking on their individual journey of discovery.
