Artist Statement

The direction of my work in the last ten years has been sparked by my fascination with the haphazard disarray of life’s clutter. This coincidentally happens to be in great abundance around me and I like to transform it on canvas into arrangements of shapes and colors, capturing moments in time; fleeting shadows on walls and floors, random corners of rooms with piles of clothes, reflections in glass bottles, potted plants, birds seen flying past the windows, vacuum cleaners and cats that always seem to get in the way.

I would describe my work as semi-abstract – some objects are still recognizable in the paintings but recently the forms and shapes have taken me in a more abstract direction. I like to work quickly and spontaneously, and for this reason I prefer to paint with acrylics.

My latest series of paintings - "Renovations" - has involved taking old and unsuccessful works and having fun with paint, masking tape and stencils. I love to build layer upon layer on the work, stripping away some new paint to reveal old areas underneath.
