Programs

In addition to SF Open Studios in the Fall, ArtSpan produces a number of other programs throughout the year, including curated and juried Exhibitions, Professional Development Workshops for Artists, and the Art for City Youth program.

Exhibitions:

ArtSpan provides emerging and established artists with diverse opportunities to display their artwork to new art appreciators and seasoned collectors alike. Annual exhibitions include the SF Open Studios Exhibition at SOMArts Cultural Center and the SF Travel Rotating Exhibition; Selections Juried Exhibition takes place biennially.

Make Your Art Your Business - Artist Workshops:

ArtSpan's monthly Professional Development Workshops are designed to aid artists with the professional side of their art practice. Topics include best practices for promoting and marketing your artwork and exhibitions, networking with social media, titling artwork, approaching galleries, writing an effective artist statement, and preparing the studio for SF Open Studios. Workshops are free for SF Open Studios Artists, ArtSpan Members, and Friends of SOMArts; $10 requested donation for general public admission (though no one will be turned away for lack of funds).

Art for City Youth:

Every child deserves access to arts education. ArtSpan's Art for City Youth program aims to fill the gaps left by budget cuts by placing professional artists in San Francisco classrooms. Art for City Youth's Teaching Artists employ Visual Thinking Strategies during in-class sessions and exhibition tours to expand their students' vocabulary and inspire creativity.
