Artist Statement

My art practice is old school - based on drawing objects that inspire me at the moment. Often they are natural in origin, botanical and of short life. As a printmaker, I have an obsession with ink and paper that causes me to collect piles of paper scraps. I'm very influenced by human rituals and celebrations that stem from the seasons we all experience.

Finally, in my art I strive to allow the pictures to take shape organically and unexpectedly. I work not knowing the result I will achieve so the fun and surprise come from following the process to its conclusion. I have invented my own combinations of drawing, collage, painting and printmaking that evolve from my various inspirations.

The feminine and domestic, the daily life of women in America, is a recurring theme. I am drawn to sex kittens, super-hero girls, drudges and dolls. They speak to me as a not-so-normal white woman, born in Ohio.
